Tilly’s Story

Our sweet girl, Matilda Poppy, whom we lovingly call Tilly for short, came into this world on July 12, and departed this earth far too soon. To be in her presence was to witness a strength and beauty unlike any other.

Our pregnancy with Tilly was typical and at the same time so special, with lots of beautiful firsts- first ultrasound, first kick, first family photo, and first reliance on Tums! Until delivery we never thought anything would or could go wrong. However, there were some complications Tilly suffered from during delivery and she ended up in the NICU and needing to be put on life support via an ECMO machine. We stayed steadfast by her side for 15 days, all the while hoping and praying she would get better. And Tilly did everything, absolutely everything, on her end that she could do. Every procedure the doctors had to perform she came through beautifully. Her strength and courage are unmatched. She is truly the strongest, bravest, most beautiful girl we know.

Even though Tilly fought so hard, ultimately the most awful thing that could happen to us did. We had to say goodbye to our daughter. We made sure Tilly knew how loved she is. We couldn’t tell her enough how much we love her and how we will always be with her, and she will always be with us. Tilly is forever on our minds, and always in our hearts. We love her every moment of every day.

After many weeks of prayer and reflection, we realized that while we cannot care for Tilly physically, we can lovingly tend to her spirit and find ways to honor her at every opportunity we can. Tilly’s love and light shone so brightly while she was with us, and will continue to.
